  • Infopath form template not upgrading after changes?

An Infopath solution wasn’t quite behaving as expected.

I wanted to make some changes and try some things out so i copied some of their XML files into my sharepoint document library so i’d be able to test against real data

I made the changes to the template but when i tried to edit one of the existing forms the new changes weren’t displayed. New forms were fine though

I went back into design mode and checked that the “automatically upgrade” option was selected.

I manually changed the form version number in case it hadn’t be incremented. No difference

The answer came from the newsgroups! (Thanks Scott L. Heim!)

If you open the XML file in notepad at the top of the file is a HREF entry that points to the XSN file. The entry was invalid as the files were now in a different document library (mine!)

I manually changed the entry so that it reflected my setup and all was well and i resumed testing without issue

  • My Second Meeting

While i’m not trying to make this a series of posts (first one here!) Tuesday night was my second Amitpro / Midlands SBS Group meeting and since i’m still pretty new to it all i thought i’d post about my experiences (thats sort of the point of having a blog right?!)

The guest speaker at the event was Gareth Brown, one of the SBSC PALS for the UK, director of Sytec, respected contributer to the community in the UK and all round nice guy

Gareth was there to talk about “solution selling” (with a focus on SPLA) and basically explain how his business makes money! I came away with pages of notes and ideas in mind that will take me until the next meeting to digest

Gareth is billed to speak at the SBSC pre-event sessions at some of the upcoming “Techincal Roadshow for Channel” events (as is Vijay) so if your planning on going make sure you pay attention!

After meeting Gareth twice now i’ve learnt a valuable lesson.

Lurking online isn’t enough. You have to be there in person if you want to know about the community.

Why do i say this? Have a look for Gareth’s blog, his facebook profile or however else you degine your “online identity”. You wont find it!

It’s getting out there and meeting people is where it counts.

It took Gareth three hours to get there and he didn’t get home until midnight. That’s commitment to your fellow professionals!

I do suggest you read Vijay’s post as it sums it up far better than i can at this late hour!

All in all i throughly enjoyed it again (it was even better that i didn’t have to travel a couple of hundred miles this time!) and i’m looking forward to making my own contribution where i can

  • For you control crazy admins

Just spotted on the Microsoft download site

Administrative Templates for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows

    and

Internet Explorer Administration Kit 7 RTM

    Go get it!

  • Source code available

I’m not exactly sure how important this annoucement is as i don’t class myself as a developer but over on Coding4Fun there is news on Microsoft releasing the source code for the upcoming release of the .Net  framework 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008

The idea is that you’ll be able to debug directly within the development environment by pointing Visual Studio to a “source server”

Scott Guthrie has a good post that shows how this will work

This caught my eye as i always associated Microsoft and source code with the impression of CDs delivered by amoured car followed by tons of paper work where you sign your life away and promise to keep it in an maximum security facility

Ok that’s a bit of an exaggeration but you get the idea.

I’m suprised that Microsoft hasn’t made more of a fuss about this but it’s good news for developers!

  • Upcoming Live Meeting Event (Partner Outreach)

Susanne has already blogged about this but i promised David Houston i’d spread the word

The event is scheduled for the 12th October at 1pm to 5pm

    The three speakers are:

    Susanne Dansey

    Mark Mulvany

    Wayne Small

The topics include Exchange and Windows Mobile for the Small Business and Patch Management from a business and technical perspective.

Details are on the website http://www.partneroutreach.com and you can register for the event here

Sign up soon as places are limited! I understand this is the first in a series of events so get behind this one to get the ball rolling

  • Partner Site now with added RSS

As i’m sure your aware the Microsoft partner site has an awful lot of content. I’m sure i’m not the only one who wishes there was an RSS feed to help find anything new and useful

Well Microsoft have listened to your feedback!

Go here and decide what type of feeds your interested in (Management, Technical, Sales and Marketing) and they’ll give you a URL you can stick in your favourite feed reader!

If the content is only available via the partner portal then you’ll get an outline with a link to the “real” content

    Good stuff

  • Outlook Connector Fixed

After my post last week about problems with the Outlook Connector it appears to have all been fixed!

I checked my mail this morning and it had sync’d correctly. I took another look at the Outlook blog and there are lots of reports of the issue now being resolved
The comment from the Outlook Program Manager (Jared Brown) reads

    Hi Everyone,
We have fixed the issue that was causing sync errors with custom domain accounts. You may need to reboot Outlook for our fix to take effect.
    Thanks for your patience,
    Jared Brown, Outlook Program Manager

I haven’t made any changes to the software so the problem must have been “in the cloud”

    Just glad it’s sorted now!
