Invalid XML Error When Opening Outlook

Just a very quick one as I came across this for the first time in ages today. This isn’t particularly new but I wanted to document it somewhere!

When opening Outlook you receive the error

“Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. Invalid XML, the view cannot be loaded.”

What this means is the file that holds your navigation preferences has likely been damaged in some way.

Fix is simple enough

run Outlook using the switch RESETNAVPANE

ResetNav

Any navigation preferences will be reset (favourite folders, etc) and will need setting up again.

Full list of Outlook command line switches are here
