Weather
Cold! There were a lot of parkrun events called off this week because of icy conditions. The nature of this course did make that a little less likely to be a problem.
Was about -1C when we started i think. Everyone was very well wrapped up.
Getting There
Pretty straightforward to get to via car. A444 from the M42 or Nuneaton direction or A447 if coming from Hinckley. Directly opposite Bosworth Hall and on the edge of the village itself you’d be unlucky to get lost. Post Code is CV13 0LP or stick “Market Bosworth Country Park” into your search engine of choice.
There is bus stop outside the park and there are services from Leicester and Hinckley
You can walk from Bosworth but that’s about it on foot and you’d only really able to make it via train by going to Leicester and then getting a bus. The lanes nearby are popular cycle routes so reachable that way too.
Facilities
Good size car park which isn’t massively expensive though it’s controlled by a barrier that isn’t quick and there was a bit of queue forming when we arrived.
You could park in the village and walk across and there are some streets in walking distance but do be careful not to inconvenience the local residents.
Portaloos were available as the main toilet block was closed. Not sure if that’s a permanent arrangement.
There was van in the car park for hot drinks afterwards. The village is so close you could easily go for a wander after if needed where there are some cafes and pubs (we’ve been to the Red Lion several times)
Briefings and Volunteers
Being the first event the RD had a lot to talk about and he managed to get through it really well. Volunteers were super friendly and enthusiastic. Being the first event there wasn’t a dedicated first timer briefing as we all were!
Start line and finish funnel
Start line is on the path heading back towards the car park. It’s a little narrow and we all got a bit bunched up but nothing to worry about. Finish line is on the grass not far from there and was long enough to deal with a big event. Loads of space on the grass to hang around and chat after you’ve got scanned and there is a good vantage point where you can stand at the beginning of the funnel and see other people coming into the last section from the lake.
Course
Two laps. One long followed by one shorter lap. Terrain is mixed with some of it on grass, some of it on trails and some of it on regular paths. Back part of it goes through trees, follows a stream over the bridge and loops back up to go around the pond/lake. It’s a nice mixture of downhill and uphill and while it’s not flat it’s not a lung busting one. In the right conditions it’ll have some quick times here.
Shoes
With it being so cold and frozen I went with road shoes which were perfectly fine but this going to be one of those that may need trail shoes when things are a bit muddier.
Short or Long? (based on our watches and checking out other Strava profiles)
I had it bang on 3.1 miles. Bryony was a touch over but there is a section with a lot of tree cover so you may got some GPS oddities on this one.

How did it go?
Andy – I really enjoyed this. We’re pretty local to Market Bosworth and had heard rumblings about there being a new parkrun starting and had managed to figure out when the first event was happening so thought we’d pop along. They hadn’t quite managed to keep it as quiet as they’d maybe planned as nearly 300 for a first event is pretty massive! It has the potential to be a really popular event as from a geographic point of view it’s a filled a bit of gap and it’s just a really nice venue too! I do think you’ll get a totally different experience for each season of the year and I’m looking forward to visiting in the summer and autumn as we’ve been to the park at that time of year and it’s lovely. From a running point of view I was pretty happy too. I’d had a sports massage the day before and had been instructed not to go out too hard and I just about managed to heed that advice and still ended up with a decent time (just about).
Being a local event it was also pleasing to see lots of familiar faces from Nuneaton Harriers and Nuneaton Triathlon Club
Bryony – I think it’s a fantastic new parkrun to have locally and really enjoyed the event, though my overall fitness leaves a lot to be desired at present. I’d forgotten how long the hill is that you climb towards the end of the lap!
Return Visit Likely?
100%
This may end up being our new home event (sorry Bedworth!) As the crow flies it’s ever so slightly further away but it’s much easier for us to get to from home I can certainly see us making lots of visits to it.
Pictures and that.
