I recently needed to return a Linkstation NAS back to a previous firmware version. <\/p>\n

When you download the update utility in the folder there is a file called LSUpdated.ini<\/strong>. In there I changed the \u201cVersionCheck\u201d flag from 1 to 0<\/p>\n

\"image\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After that running the update utility worked exactly the same as usual and it happily replaced the current firmware with an older version. <\/p>\n

This should also work with Terastation devices too. <\/p>\n

As always \u201cuse at your own risk, I\u2019m not responsible for breaking your stuff, yada yada\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Buffalo also have a very helpful article on their knowledge base<\/a> which points out that you can change the \u201cdebug\u201d flag which then allows you force the downgrade from within the utility itself. <\/p>\n

The main problem I had was actually getting hold of the older firmware. <\/p>\n

The download page on the Buffalo website on provided the latest version. <\/p>\n

The trick was to manipulate the URL as Buffalo still have the files on their site.<\/p>\n

For example.<\/p>\n

Version 1.64 is available on this link. <\/p>\n

http:\/\/www.buffalotech.com\/support-and-downloads\/download\/ls_series-164.zip<\/a><\/p>\n

To get hold of version 1.37 i changed the numbers at the end to match. <\/p>\n

http:\/\/www.buffalotech.com\/support-and-downloads\/download\/ls_series-137.zip<\/a><\/p>\n

I can\u2019t make any promises on how long this will continue to work for though. <\/p>\n

Probably also worth noting, make sure you\u2019re on the correct site. <\/p>\n

buffalotech.com<\/em> is the USA site<\/p>\n

buffalo-technology.com<\/em> is for Europe<\/p>\n

The Europe download site gives each file an ID number so it doesn\u2019t quite work the same. <\/p>\n

For example<\/p>\n

Version 1.64 download link is<\/p>\n

Note the 153 on the end.<\/p>\n
