{"id":1255,"date":"2013-04-04T09:36:01","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T09:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1255"},"modified":"2013-04-04T09:36:01","modified_gmt":"2013-04-04T09:36:01","slug":"the-difference-between-apply-and-ok","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/2013\/04\/04\/the-difference-between-apply-and-ok\/","title":{"rendered":"The Difference Between Apply and OK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you make any changes to settings in Windows you\u2019ll have seen three buttons at the bottom.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>OK, CANCEL, APPLY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 7px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"OK, CANCEL, APPLY\" border=\"0\" alt=\"OK, CANCEL, APPLY\" src=\"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"311\" height=\"63\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been asked a couple of times recently about difference between the ok and apply buttons so thought that I thought it was worth posting about! <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all that complicated. <\/p>\n<p>If you make any changes and press the APPLY button the settings are put into place and the window stays open. <\/p>\n<p>If you make any changes and press the OK button the settings are put into place and the window is then closed. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it! <\/p>\n<p>Both are supposed to be time saving functions depending on what you are doing. If you are making multiple changes but want to see what effect it has as you are working the apply button means you don\u2019t have to constantly reopen the settings window each time. <\/p>\n<p>The OK button is there for one off operations and means you don\u2019t need an extra click to close the window manually. <\/p>\n<p>I very often see people who click the Apply button and then immediately click the OK button which says to me it\u2019s not obvious what the difference is. <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m hoping it\u2019s obvious what the cancel button is for.&#160; <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" alt=\"Smile\" src=\"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/wlEmoticon-smile.png\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you make any changes to settings in Windows you\u2019ll have seen three buttons at the bottom.
