I was trying to install Office 2013 Pro Plus recently and was getting this error message<\/p>\n

\u201cMicrosoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"bootstrap\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If you put that error message into your favourite search engine there are a variety of suggested solutions, the most popular ones seemed to be.<\/p>\n

Use Microsoft Fixit Tools to <\/em>completely remove Office 2013<\/em><\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n

Backup and then delete the AppCompatFlag <\/strong>registry key<\/em><\/p>\n

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\AppCompatFlags<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In my case it wasn\u2019t any of those. <\/span><\/p>\n

Looking at the application log in event viewer showed what the problem was straight away. <\/span><\/p>\n

We have a software restriction policy in place that\u2019s used as part of some prevention measures for malware such as Cryptolocker. <\/span><\/p>\n

In this scenario the options are to either create an exception on the policy or to temporarily stop the Group Policy that applies the restrictions from applying.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also possible some anti-virus could do this too.<\/p>\n
