The less said about 2020 the better right?

Well, not quite…it’s pretty obvious it’s a year we’ll be talking about for a LONG time in the future.

When we suddenly found ourselves with a lot more time at home at the start of the year I thought getting back to blogging would be something I’d be able to do with all this extra time. It didn’t quite work out that way though.

It’s been a difficult year for everyone and each time I thought about writing something, at the back of my head all I could think about was how relatively lucky I was in comparison to lots of other people.

This made the random thoughts I sporadically splurge onto the internet seem even more insignificant than usual!

So I left it.

Over the christmas and new year break I remembered how much I used to enjoy writing an end of year post. It was a good thing to look back and remember what had happened over the previous 12 months and I’m not entirely sure how I fell out of that habit.

With this being such an unusual year though the number of things to look back on are that much fewer in number. Trips, events, holidays, birthdays, get togethers and the like have all been delayed or cancelled altogether.

It’s been really difficult to be positive about much other than fact myself and the kids are all physically healthy.

Mentally though?

It’s reasonably well known that men as a group aren’t great at talking about that kind of thing. (and if you don’t know, Mind have lots of info on it. Here’s one. Here’s another )

Which is a roundabout way saying I’m not great at it either. As I said above we’ve had it relatively ok in comparison to some other people, but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy. So I’ve decided to try and get back into blogging to use it as a bit of an outlet. I won’t be putting any pressure on myself. This may end up being my last post for months, I may write some nonsense on the last book I read, a game I played or it might be about how running is good for making me feel better.

Who knows.

I don’t really expect anyone is keeping much of an eye on my blog these days. It’s a very different beast these days to what’s been over the years and that doesn’t matter, as with most personal blogs the reasoning for doing it is for myself. But if you happen to come across this, come say hi in the usual places 👋
