A couple of weeks ago I saw a post on Mark Wilson\u2019s blog talking about CMDKEY<\/a>. At the time I thought \u201cthat\u2019s one to remember\u201d but wondered if I’d ever actually need it<\/p>\n

Turns out today I did!<\/p>\n

CmdKey is used for managing cached credentials<\/p>\n

Someone called today as they were working with the documents on their SharePoint site and the \u201ccreated by\u201d field was a different user to the one who was actually logged into the PC<\/p>\n

What had happened was when the user had been created they initially didn\u2019t have permissions to access the site so they were presented with a username and password prompt<\/p>\n

They put in a username and password combination that DID have permissions to the site and put the tick in the box for \u201cremember my password\u201d<\/p>\n

So I used the following commands<\/p>\n

CMDKEY \/List<\/em><\/p>\n

This gave me a list of the cached credentials on this PC<\/p>\n

I found the one I wanted and used<\/p>\n

CMDKEY \/Delete:TARGET<\/em> \u2013 where target was the name of the server\/site I needed to delete<\/p>\n

I closed the browser and restarted and all was well!<\/p>\n

The CMDKEY command is included on Server 2003 \/ Server 2008 and Windows Vista but NOT XP<\/p>\n

However, you can copy it from a server 2003 machine onto an XP machine and it\u2019ll work just fine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
