{"id":441,"date":"2009-03-08T08:58:33","date_gmt":"2009-03-08T08:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/2009\/03\/08\/unable-to-release-items-from-quarantine-when-using-outlook-2007-with-mcafee-groupshield\/"},"modified":"2009-03-08T08:58:33","modified_gmt":"2009-03-08T08:58:33","slug":"unable-to-release-items-from-quarantine-when-using-outlook-2007-with-mcafee-groupshield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/2009\/03\/08\/unable-to-release-items-from-quarantine-when-using-outlook-2007-with-mcafee-groupshield\/","title":{"rendered":"Unable to release items from quarantine when using Outlook 2007 with McAfee Groupshield"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/2009\/03\/08\/mcafee-groupshield-incorrectly-identifying-e-mail-as-corrupt\/\">Following on from my last post<\/a> i mentioned that getting an email out of quarantine wasn\u2019t fun<\/p>\n<p>Basically the procedure should go like this<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>End user receives a message telling them an email to be delivered to them has been quarantined<\/li>\n<li>End user contacts administrator with ticket ID from quarantine notice<\/li>\n<li>Administrator locates email and releases message<\/li>\n<li>End user receives an email telling them their message has been released. In this message is a save button they have to press to save a copy of the email <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not quite that simple though for a couple of reasons<\/p>\n<p>1) When the email arrives Outlook blocks the scripts from running in the email (quite rightly) which means there is an extra step to save the message to the hard disk as a HTML file<\/p>\n<p>2) Once saved as a HTML file the save functionality isn\u2019t very dynamic. You have to specify the save location manually as there is no browse button<\/p>\n<p>3) The email is supposed to be saved in .eml format but the webpage adds an extra extension on for some reason which isn\u2019t a great experience for the end user<\/p>\n<p>4) EML files aren\u2019t readable by Outlook so you have to open in them in Outlook Express \/ Windows Mail and then import them into Outlook<\/p>\n<p>Lengthy and irritating<\/p>\n<p>To make matters worse if you using Outlook 2007 when you do save the quarantine  release notice as a HTML file the save button doesn\u2019t work<\/p>\n<p>It turns out this is because Outlook 2007 butchers the HTML and adds it\u2019s own tags<\/p>\n<p>To get around this<\/p>\n<li>With the email open in Outlook 2007, click <strong>Other Actions<\/strong>, <strong>View in Browser<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>When prompted for the change in security settings, click <strong>OK<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>When the email opens in the web browser, click <strong>File<\/strong>, <strong>Save As<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>Browse to the location where you wish to save the file &#8211; for example the <strong>Desktop<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Save as type<\/strong> field, select <strong>HTM<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>After the file has been saved, double-click it to open it.<\/li>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>The save button then works<\/p>\n<p>This is from <a href=\"https:\/\/kc.mcafee.com\/corporate\/index?page=content&amp;id=KB51838\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">McAfee KB51838<\/a>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>My advice is that if you come across this when you locate the message on the server DONT release it from quarantine. Instead there is an option to download the EML file directly yourself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/image.png\" rel=\"lightview\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"90\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/andyparkes.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/image-thumb.png\" width=\"374\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>This skips the whole save as HTML nonsense and you only have to worry about converting the EML message so Outlook can open<\/p>\n<p>While on that subject \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/kc.mcafee.com\/corporate\/index?page=content&amp;id=KB53007\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">another McAfee article (KB53007)<\/a> indicates that groupshield SP1 does away with this and will allow you save as MSG.
