just found out our company credit card has been scammed for 17k..thanks a lot scumbags!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We didn\u2019t even know it had happened. The credit card company called over the weekend and the police paid a visit to my business partner to go over the details. They wouldn\u2019t say much but it looks like the card was used online. Since it\u2019s a credit card we are protected against fraud so we\u2019re not liable for the money. It\u2019s still money that someone has lost (i.e the card company!) <\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time I\u2019ve experienced card fraud<\/a><\/p>\n

What frustrates me is that the chip and pin<\/a> system was brought into effect in 2006 at great expense but it only solves part of the problem<\/p>\n

If you order something over the phone or on a website you have to hand over <\/p>\n

\n

Name on the card<\/p>\n

Card Number<\/p>\n

Expiry Date<\/p>\n

Card security code (CSC)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That is enough information for anyone<\/strong> to use that credit card \u2013 they don\u2019t even need to physically have it in their possession <\/p>\n

The telephone transaction is the biggest cause for concern in my opinion as your trusting the person your speaking with to put the card details in their system and not write them down for their own use<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the solution?<\/p>\n

That I don\u2019t know. The only thing i can think of is if the credit card itself could generate a one-time password (a-la RSA SecurID<\/a> or AuthAnvil Tokens<\/a>)<\/p>\n

It would mean you\u2019d physically have to be in possession of the card \u2013 though that still wouldn\u2019t help if you had your card stolen<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll be more wary of who we\u2019re giving our card details to going forward but in all honesty I don\u2019t think we did anything wrong here<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
