When .NET arrived it got dropped from the Visual Studio package and made a stand-alone product. While it was a great technology in its time it has been surpassed by lots of other languages and RDMS that are out there. Also the lack of .NET Framework integration really showed where Microsoft were going with this.

From a business point of view im interested to see what will happen over at Pegasus. They produce a product called Opera II that is used by many companies in the UK as their accounting solution. I deployed, supported and developed for the package in my previous employment and many of my current customers still use it.

I do know that there is still a massive community for FoxPro and a petition has already be created to urge Microsoft to carry on with support and developing FoxPro (for which i have lost the link!)

The FoxPro team are currently working on a project code-named Seda now that they are done with FoxPro

I’ll be keeping on eye on this one

*-* UPDATE *-*

I sent an email to the marketing people at Pegasus and all i got was four out-of-office replies…damn Bank Holidays 😉

I stumbled across a page on the MSDN website that announces that there will be no more version of Visual FoxPro.
