One our customers recently started using SharePoint. Because of the nature of their business sometimes it feels like SharePoint was developed with them in mind!
One of the things they wanted to do was keep track of room bookings.
Pretty straightforward. They decided to have four seperate calendars (i suggested one calendar with a room field but it was their decision), one for each room. I then created a web part page and dropped a web part for each calendar onto the page. The theory being that at a glance they could see room availability for a particular month.
All seemed well initially and they started added events.
Until i got a call saying “i just hit the save button but it doesn’t show up on the calendar”
WTF?
I tried it myself and she was right. I drilled down into the individual calendar and the missing items were there.
If you want to re-create this for yourself do the following.
1) Create two new events lists (Calendar 1, Calendar 2)
2) Create a new web part page
3) Place a web part for each of the calendars onto the page
4) Set the view for both web parts to Calendar
5) Create a new event for the first calendar in the NEXT month (e.g 7/2/2007)
6) Repeat step 5 for second calendar
7) Return to the web part page, click the ‘>’ button to select the next
month in the calendar
8) Note that only ONE of the events appears
(BTW this also applies with one calendar and multiple web parts of that calendar)
The problem occurs when you click the > to change the month. If you stay in the current month all is well. I experiented with tweaking the URL and had some success but i couldn’t expect the users to do this.
I searched around and found the follow post. Same issue. Claimed it had been filed as a bug with a MS support. But check out the date..2005
I thought there must be a fix if it had been filed so long ago. I couldn’t find anything so i posted in the managed newsgroups and this is the reply i got
Thanks for posting in the partner newsgroups.
Yes, this is a limitation when placing multiple calendar view Web Parts on
a page. We can place multiple event list view web parts on any page but we
cannot use the calendar view for more than one web part. Currently there is
no fix available. I am sorry for the inconvenience it may cause.
I personally think what you would like to implement is very reasonable and
understand how frustrating it is when you find that the product does not
meet your needs. Your advice will be archived for our development team so
that they may improve this by an update patch to be released in the future
or in the next version of the product.
We strive to capture any and all product issues and product feedback so as
to ensure that we are continuously developing Microsoft products to meet
customer needs; this is exactly why feedback such as yours is always taken
very seriously.
Wonderful!
I checked this out in WSS v3 and it works without any problems. The customer has just put a lot of effort into their deployment so i dont think they’ll be wanting to upgrade just yet.
To get around the problem in the end i created a single calendar, added a field for the rooms. Created views for each of the rooms and created a web part page with links to each of the views. Not quite as elegant as what they originally wanted but it’ll do for now

Got the same thing only with WSS 3 and only when I open the first of the month in calendar view. If I do that, after closing the day view page that appears, several days of events are dropped from any month I navigate to thereafter. If I open any other day I get the full month back….!
Is that similar ?
No i dont think it’s similar…
This problem occurs in MOSS (Office Sharepoint Portal Server 2007) on a single calendar list. I also have calendar lists in subsites – these are separate lists. Come on Microsoft, can you fix this?
I’ve struck this in WSS3 as well.
If you change the ‘day’ value in the URL to anything but 1, the events reappear where they should be. But as the post points out, you can’t expect users to do this…
Hmm, seems like a fairly major problem, weird that MS have left it so long.
We have the same problem with MOSS! (with 1 calendar on a page)
Everything looks ok untill you click on the ) to the month where you first started. All meetings are gone in your calendar except a few in the first week.
Chris, you are right about changing the day in the url to anything else but 1 but indeed you can’t expect users to do this…
Microsoft please solve this problem!!!
(does anyone know if this bug is solved in SP1?)
some words are missing in my message above so here it is again:

Hey guys,
I’m having the exact same issue over here.
Single list calendar.
At first I tought it might have been a performance issue (since i’ve brightened up the calendar with some colours using javascript).
I’m curious if the issue is only true every first of the month.
I don’t understand why miscrosoft hasn’t done anything about it yet, as it seems such a simple bug to fix. (workaround- make the links start on 02 of the month). we’ll just have to endure 🙁
Nico,
have the same problem on first day of Month

I have two problems:
1. We bought a quiz web part and when multiple uses access the web part they get access denied. The users can access the site and access the web part and even take the quiz, but when they try to submit the quiz on a random basis a few persons will get Access Denied. Users have taken 1900 quizzes.
2. On a very different note we have users who access the home intranet page and it shows 3 zones all pulled into one zone or the middle zone missing or the zones overlapping. It is only happening on a few sites. Any ideas?
Yep, experiencing exactly the same problems on WSS version 3. You can change the view to weekly and the issue is resolved, and like Chris has said, changing the url from 1 is another fix.
MICROSOFT SORT IT OUT!!!
hi,
I am doing the same room reservation. the reservations are made in calendar. my client wants the one day view to be sorted for each resource wise[something like Gantt view]. the reservations have to be shaded and show subject of each reservation. how can this be done .
Hi guys!
I have the same problem with month views which start from the 1th of month! but there is something more about my calendars that i want to share maybe it will help more:
I had changed the name of “Title” column to “Item Title” but not only in the current list. Since then any new list have “Item Title” instead of “Title”. Now I want to change it back to “Title”. But it gives me error message that “a column with the same name exists or preserved”.
could you help me please to rechange it to Title?
P.S: this new problem with my calendars occured after making the change to the “Title” column! (As I think) because my prevouse calendars do work well and I have the default “Title” column in them. I have even checked thiis quick solution that I tried to save one of my prevous calendars as Template, and then create a new one from that. B

But in the recently created calendar I don’t have”Title” ,there is “Item Title” instead! and unfortunately the new calendar has problem with month views!
H E L P Please!
I checked even my sharepoint site regional settings to see if I can find any relation to my calendars but nothing was found!
The bug is solved in WSS SP1. See for more information about all fixes in SP1.
